2nd Annual Summit, “Into the Depths: Exploring this Global Moment”

Sep 28, 2021 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Register now for our Second Annual Summit!

This year, the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh is excited to be hosting our second annual virtual summit “Into the Depths: Exploring this Global Moment,” which coincides with the celebration of our 90th anniversary! The theme for the summit this year centers around diving deeper into important issues by bringing back some of the speakers and organizations we featured this year that resonated with our audience, and welcoming new speakers with unique perspectives we are excited to hear from for the first time. We will not only discuss the surface details of global issues, but also dive deeper into their causes, contexts, and why they matter to our daily lives.

The four days of virtual events will include opening and closing keynote addresses, musical performances by internationally acclaimed Cuban artist Descemer Bueno, and interactive programs with experts speaking on crucial global issues. The Summit’s opening keynote speaker will be Amali Tower, Founder and Executive Director of Climate Refugees, and Lina Abirafeh, Executive Director at the Arab Institute for Women will close out the event with our closing keynote.

Additional speakers include Alex Amend, Director of Communications at Moonshot CVE; Ambassador Norman Eisen, Senior Fellow in Governance Studies at Brookings Institution; Michelle King, Teacher and Learning Instigator; and Scott Shute, Head of Mindfulness and Compassion at LinkedIn.

We will also be joined by multiple youth voices, including Jeremiah Davis, a student at Chatham University and a student employee at the Eden Hall K-12 Programs Office coordinating the Youth Advisory Board and the Pittsburgh Youth Council for Change. Hannah Shin, a senior at North Allegheny Senior High School and Youth Board Co-Chair for the Council; and Connor Dalgaard, a senior at West Allegheny High School and Youth Voice & Innovation Fellow at the Council.
