British Consul General in New York and Her Majesty´s Trade Commissioner for North America
The Consul General is the senior UK official in a Consulate General, which is a subordinate office to the Embassy or High Commission, usually located in another major city. The Consul General represents the UK government and is typically responsible for consular, visa and trade activities in their city or region.
The nine new HM Trade Commissioners (HMTC) will form a new team of senior leaders for DIT, who will lead and drive future commercial and trading relationships with overseas partners. Trade Commissioners will be responsible for the UK’s commercial relationship with all the markets their region, working closely with Heads of Mission, DIT Heads of Trade, and a wide range of stakeholders. They will be held accountable for delivery by the DIT Permanent Secretary and Departmental Board. The HMTC sits on the Board of the Department for International Trade, the foreign commercial arm of the UK government, and leads its operations across the United States and Canada.
