peter-muller-monk_05_768Young professionals are invited to experience a private guided tour of Silver to Steel: The Modern Designs of Peter Muller-Munk. A German-born industrial designer who made a home in Pittsburgh, Peter Muller-Munk was the creative mind behind thousands of designs for powerful clients in the mid-20th century, including Alcoa, Bayer, Bissell, Mellon Bank, and U.S. Steel. During this guided museum tour, led by exhibit curator Rachel Delphia, attendees will be transported back to an era like that of the hit TV show, Mad Men.

peter-muller-monk_03_768Silver to Steel is the first retrospective of Muller-Munk’s four-decade career, and situates him among the most influential designers of his generation. The tour will address the background of this widely recognized designer and introduce attendees to many of his famous pieces, which range from everyday household items to international expositions and mass-transit vehicles.

This event is the first in a series of the World Affairs Council’s programs for Young Professionals.

“Good design is now a mainstay of our everyday life, and the democratization of design means that product development should be visually striking, user-friendly and functional. And this is exactly what the co-organizers of this exhibition…have done. …[T]hey have created an elegant, orderly and thoroughly edifying exhibition.” – Pittsburgh City Paper
