Is China the next great power to rival the west? Internationally recognized economist Dr. Allan Meltzer doesn’t believe that is the case. Join us as we relaunch our Allen and Selma Berkman Speaker Series with an engaging discussion on China. Through a moderated discussion with Gus Faucher of The PNC Financial Services Group, world-renowned economist Dr. Allan Meltzer will address the political and economic policies he argues are holding China back.

am05Dr. Allan H. Meltzer serves as the Allan H. Meltzer University Professor of Political Economy in the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University. A recognized expert in the field, he has previously served as a consultant for several congressional committees, the President’s Council of Economic Advisers, the US Treasury Department, the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, the World Bank, foreign governments, and central banks. In 1999–2000, he served as chairman of the International Financial Institution Advisory Commission, known as the Meltzer Commission, which proposed major reforms of the International Monetary Fund and the development banks. Dr. Meltzer’s writings have appeared in numerous publications including The New Criterion, The Washington PostThe New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal, among many others.

Augustine (Gus) Faucher is senior vice president and deputy chief economist of The PNC Financial Services Group. He is responsible for contributing to the preparation of PNC’s U.S. economic forecast and alternative economic scenarios. In addition, he contributes to PNC’s National Economic Outlook, Economic Releases, Market Expectations Survey, and Economic Outlook Survey of Small Business Owners reports. Faucher is frequently cited in international, national, and regional media outlets including The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. He has appeared on ABC World News, CBS Evening News, NBC Nightly News and Nightly Business Report; and is regularly featured on CNBC, CNN and Fox Business.
