Celebrate Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th Birth Anniversary on Sunday, October 6 at the University of Pittsburgh’s Frick Fine Arts Auditorium from 2 – 5 PM.
October 2nd, Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday, is the International Day of Nonviolence, per a United Nations declaration in 2007.
Please join us for an afternoon celebrating the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi and his teachings. Enjoy chai with Pittsburgh organizations at 2 PM, followed by interfaith presentations, cultural performances, and student readings about: Truth, Peace and Action: Mahatma Gandhi’s Legacy at 150, with Chief Guest India Consul General Sandeep Chakravorty. Sandeep Chakravorty, a member of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) since 1996, has served in India’s Mission in several countries. Prior to becoming Consul General of India in New York in August 2017, he was the Ambassador of India to Peru and Bolivia.
India Consul General Chakravorty will present the bronze bust of Gandhi to the University community to be permanently installed in the Hillman Library on the Oakland campus.
