A Workshop for Educators Teaching about Turkey: Bridge between East and WestMar 23, 2015 4:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Historically, the Republic of Turkey has been viewed as a bridge between East and West. Not only do cultures from Europe and Asia meet and comingle in Turkey, but the Bosphorus Bridge, one of two spanning the Bosphorus Straight, literally connects the two continents. Turkey has played an important role throughout history and remains a pivotal country in shaping our world today. Turkish culture reflects the richness and diversity shaped by the nation’s deep historical roots in the region, as well as the region’s unique position as a cradle of civilizations for twelve millennia.
During this workshop, teachers will have the opportunity to learn about Turkey’s place in the world and experience Turkish culture. They will gain access to lesson plans and other resources, and hear from teachers from the Pittsburgh region who have traveled to Turkey. Two ACT 48 credit hours will be awarded (pending approval). Cost of the workshop is $20 and includes dinner and credit hour reporting.
