Fires+of+Spring+coverClick here to read a recent review of The Fires of Spring by Dan Simpson of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

In The Fires of Spring: A Post-Arab Spring Journey Through the Turbulent New Middle East, Shelly Culbertson narrates a journey through six countries (Tunisia, Turkey, Iraq, Jordan, Qatar, and Egypt), seeking to understand how the Arab Spring shaped the Middle East. Her work tells the stories of protest leaders, government officials, journalists, business leaders, and others — and describes their ideas as well as conflicting points of view.

Join us for a conversation surrounding Shelly’s new book, and on the shifting dynamics within the New Middle East in the wake of the Arab Spring. What is the New Middle East? Where do the Arab Spring nations stand today? Does the future predict more turmoil and destruction, or a gradual progression towards stability?

culbertsonShelly Culbertson is a policy analyst at the RAND Corporation and is the author of The Fires of Spring: A Post-Arab Spring Journey Through the Turbulent New Middle East. She is currently conducting research about urban services, education, and employment for Syrian refugees in Jordan, Turkey, and Lebanon.
