Prof_devEducators are key partners for the World Affairs Council of Pittsburgh. For over four decades, the Council has offered professional development opportunities for educators to deepen their content knowledge and share innovative practices. The Council’s network of educators includes classroom teachers and administrators in public, independent, and charter schools.

The Council offers annual programs such as the Summer Institute for Teachers and National Security Briefing for Teachers, as well as other workshops throughout the year. Our newest professional development opportunity is the Global Fluency Training for Educators, offered in partnership with the Columbus Council on World Affairs’ Global Fluency Institute.

The Council also partners with schools to serve as hosts for events with high-profile speakers, to design special programs for students, teachers or administrators, and to share resources.

Educators are the great multipliers. Teachers from all disciplines are welcome to attend Council workshops, which are typically offered at no charge or largely subsidized for teachers in the Pittsburgh region. Workshops are approved for Act 48 professional credit. The Council often works closely in collaboration with other nonprofit entities, universities, intermediate units, and national and international organizations.
