Logistical Notes

Picture1This page contains important logistical information about the Summer Seminar on Global Issues.

Please note: Emily Markham will be out of the office from June 4-14, 2015. If you have a question about the Summer Seminar during that time, please contact Amiena Mahsoob, at 412-281-7973 or amiena@worldpittsburgh.org

Necessary Forms for Participation: Please bring completed copies of the Parental Permission and Medical Consent Form, Property Use Agreement, and Media Opt-Out Release when you arrive on June 15. Copies of these forms can be found on the side bar to the right. Please note, the Opt-Out Release only needs to be completed if you do not want your images shared.

First Day: We will be meeting daily from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. in 4130 Posvar Hall. A campus map can be found at www.tour.pitt.edu. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. on June 15, 2015. Please plan to arrive no later than 9:00 a.m. Students are required to attend and participate in all program sessions and activities during the three weeks.

Readings: You should receive (by mail) a copy of the book, “Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits” from the University of Pittsburgh. A letter will accompany this book with specific reading instructions. Be sure to complete this assignment before the start of the Summer Seminar.

Lunch: Please plan to pack and bring your lunch with you each day. Lunch will only be provided on special occasions, which students will be notified of well in advance.

Parking: If driving, you are encouraged to park at the Soldiers and Sailors parking garage on the corner of Fifth Avenue and the Boulevard of the Allies. The rate is $12 per day. Parking is also available at nearby lots, garages, and on surrounding streets (metered.)

Public Transportation: Public transportation is available to the University of Pittsburgh campus and could serve as a method of travel to and from the program. We recommend that you check the Port Authority website or the public transit function on Google Maps to plan your route. The fare is $2.50 for Zone 1 and $3.75 for Zone 2 rides. You will need the exact amount—drivers will not make change.
